Shrewsbury Youth Hockey Association (SYHA) will begin its 36th season on September 1, 2010 with approximately 300 participants ages 4-17 comprising a total of 14 competitive hockey teams, 6 House League teams and 3 Learn to Skate Program Sessions. All of these teams promote the Town of Shrewsbury as they participate in youth leagues located in central and eastern MA. All of the teams play games in the American Youth Hockey League in Westborough, and/or the National Youth Hockey league in Marlboro. Youth hockey traditionally has one of the longest seasons of all youth sports with the season starting at the end of August and running through the middle of April. It takes a huge commitment by both the players and their parents. SYHA is a non-profit organization. We rely solely on volunteers and donations to keep registration fees as reasonable as possible. SYHA ice costs, skill development sessions and league fees run in excess of $300,000 each season, and each player is responsible for an average of $1,000 in personal expense. Fund raising and corporate sponsorship play an incredibly important role in helping to defray these costs, and to keep our participant fees as affordable as possible.
